WHSmith Presents How to Accessorise your Gifts: Burlap Spike Transcript
I’m Jane Means, gift wrapping style expert for WHSmith and I love to add decorations and bows onto gifts. Quite often I don’t want something too feminine; I want more a masculine touch.
I’m going to use this really rustic burlap ribbon in red and in gold and what I’m doing is cutting some small lengths, about 3 inches/10 cm. I’m going to cut about three of each. I’m then going to go to the gold burlap and do the same but probably with that cut it slightly smaller.
I’m then going to use some string; about a hand-span is all you need. What I’m going to do is with the burlap start squeezing it into the centre. I’m starting off with the red because they’re slightly longer lengths. And I’m putting them on at varying angles.
I’m going to do the same with the natural gold burlap as well. And then I need to secure it. Then I’m teasing out the spikes. With the string I now need to add this onto the present so the best way to do that is get your string. I’m going to double it up, I’m going to go around the box and just tie a knot in the centre.
What I’m going to do is tie the spike decoration with my string. You may want to, with the strings going around the box, tease them open. And there’s our burlap spike.
