Violet never wanted to move to Perfect.
Who wants to live in a town where everyone has to wear glasses to stop them going blind? And who wants to be neat and tidy and perfectly behaved all the time?
When she meets Boy she realizes that her dad is not the only person to have been stolen away… and that the mysterious Watchers are guarding a perfectly creepy secret!
Author Helena Duggan interviews Karl James Mountford, cover illustrator of A Place Called Perfect, on designing the perfect pair of spectacles (ones we’re pretty sure Tom Fletcher would be happy to add to his collection!)
Helena Duggan: Glasses are massively important to the plot in A Place Called Perfect, how did you come up with the ingenious glasses design on the cover of A Place Called Perfect?
Karl Mountford: A lot of it was Kath’s (Usborne cover designer) ‘perfect’ vision for the cover, we went through a few styles, some overly eccentric glasses, some pretty, some kinda scary but the ones that worked best were the simplest ones, we wanted a classic look to glasses.
Helena Duggan: Did you go through various designs/colours?
Karl Mountford: We did a few colour tests, but from the offset I had the glasses as warm tones, oranges and reds.
Helena Duggan: They’re perfect! Fun question for you… If you could design your own pair of glasses to wear – what would they look like?!
Karl Mountford: They would look like this!
With tinted colour lens with patterns in, so even on the greyest of days things would look pretty darn interesting.
Helena Duggan: Deadly! I bet Tom Fletcher would like a pair just like those!
