Starring Dylan O’ Brien as Thomas, the story begins with Thomas waking up with no memory of who he is, where he is or how he got there. He finds himself among a self-sufficient group of boys in a mysterious and dangerous environment called ‘The Glade’, enclosed within an enormous maze that could be their only route of escape. Books VS films feels like a debate as old as time itself, and finding that balance between staying true to the book and ensuring the story works on film can be a difficult task for directors. Particularly with a series of books as popular as The Maze Runner, getting the characters, plot, settings and even the atmosphere of the film right can all be tricky. We caught up with film director Wes Ball for an exclusive interview about the challenges of reinterpreting the book, the importance of getting the characters right and what readers have to gain from the film:
