  1. When they were first released you could buy a Mr Men book for just 15p! That’s the equivalent of just under £1.50 today.
  2. The most popular character from the series is still the very first Mr Man; Mr Tickle
  3. Roger Hargreaves initial idea for the series came about after his son Adam asked the very valid question ‘what does a tickle look like?’
  4. There are now 49 Mr Men books and 42 Little Miss books
  5. Little Miss characters didn’t arrive on the scene until 10 years after the first Mr Men.
  6. The Little Miss Twins book was dedicated to Amelia and Sophie- Roger Hargreaves’ own twins.
  7. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Mr Men series in 2001, the Sunday Times ran a competition asking for entrants to submit their own ideas for a Mr Men book. 8 year old Gemma Almond won with her submission; Mr Cheeky, which was then sold in WHSmith stores only to raise money for a leukaemia charity.
  8. When Adam Hargreaves took over the series following his father’s death, he wrote Mr Brave, Mr Cheerful, Mr Perfect and Mr Grumble based on characters his dad developed. Mr Cool was his first unique creation.
  9. The first book came out in 1971, making the series 50 years old in 2021.
  10. The original Mr Men were Mr Tickle, Mr Bump, Mr Happy, Mr Nosey, Mr Greedy and Mr Sneeze
