Kimberly Wyatt Reads an Extract from Billie’s Big Audition Transcript
Hello everyone at WHSmith, I’m Kimberly Wyatt and I’m very excited to share with you my very first book Billie’s Big Audition from the World Elite Academy series. I’d like to read an extract for you from a time in a moment when Billy is performing a choreographed routine she did herself for Miss Murphy who’s the head of WEDA.
As soon as the notes of the jazz piano filled the air all of the tension and regret she’d been feeling melted from Billie’s body. This was her time to shine. And as soon as Billie Holiday’s soulful voice began singing, Billie lost herself in the melody. As she heard the words, ‘I’m no good without you’, Billie thought of her dad and, just like the day Andre had seen her dance, Billie felt all of her pain and sorrow and love blend together and fill her limbs. At times she felt weightless as she leaped and spun through the air. It was as if her body was a paintbrush painting great brushstrokes of emotion all over the studio.
Finally, the song came to an end. Billie closed her eyes as reality began prickling its way back inside of her. She opened her eyes and glanced at Miss Murphy. Miss Murphy was staring at her, transfixed. The silence in the studio seemed to stretch on forever, then finally Miss Murphy stood up. ‘I believe in you, Billie, but you have to believe in you to make it as a dancer, do you understand?’
