We don’t know about you, but to us our 225th anniversary feels like the perfect excuse to have a good old chat about the great books that have been sent out into the world over the past 225 years. From the classics by authors such as Charles Dickens, Leo Tolstoy and Jane Austen, to the contemporaries from the likes of George RR Martin, John le Carre and Jilly Cooper, once you scratch that surface you find all sorts of phenomenal books jump out on the bookshelf.
And so as well as talking to lots of lovely readers online, we caught up with some of the best-loved authors around to get talking about their favourite books of the last 225 years. Some, like Jojo Moyes, went for a classic, while Richard Madeley opted for a more recent tale and Robert Harris chose an old story that has newfound relevance today. Find out which books they, and many other authors picked as their favourites in the video below and use the hashtag #WHS225Books to let us know what you would choose as your favourite book of the last 225 years.
