Thorne Moore signing A Time For Silence
WHSmith Cardiff, CF10 2NX
Saturday 18th May from 11am
Come and meet Welsh crime writer Thorne Moore at WHSmith Cardiff on Saturday 18th May from 11am. Thorne will be signing copies of A Time For Silence
A domestic noir novel, set in Pembrokeshire. Gwenllian Lewis wedded John Owen in 1933 and settled down to married life on the tiny farm of Cwmderwen. Seventy-five years later, their granddaughter Sarah comes upon the ruined cottage where they had once lived and the discovery inspires her to investigate her family history. But when she unearths a shocking secret, her interest becomes an obsession. Who shot John Owen? Why was the murderer never caught? Why was she never told about it? Escaping from her own tragedy, Sarah immerses herself in an older one; a tragedy that overturns her fantasies of an idyllic past, for the story of Gwen and her husband John Owen was anything but idyllic. When the full unpalatable truth dawns on Sarah, she finds herself rethinking her own life.
Thorne, who writes psychological crime and domestic noir, is a member of the Crime Writer’s Association and Crime Cymru. She grew up in Luton, where she was advised to study law, but, since that implied a career in law and she intended to be a writer, she studied history instead, at Aberystwyth. Nine years later, after a spell working in a library, she returned to Wales, where she took her law degree through the Open University before concentrating on writing full time. She won first prize with a short story published in Debut in 2010, and her first novel, A Time For Silence, set in Pembrokeshire, was published in 2012. It was followed by four others, Motherlove, The Unravelling, Shadows and Long Shadows. Covenant, a prequel to A Time For Silence, will be published shortly.
