Come and Meet Gareth Owen signing: Raising an Eyebrow – My Life with Sir Roger Moore – POSTPONED
Saturday 29th February from 11am
Come and Meet Sir Roger Moore's executive assistant Gareth Owen. Signing copies of his latest book Raising an Eyebrow - My Life with Sir Roger Moore at WHSmith Shrewsbury on Saturday 29th February from 11am. PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER
HAVING taken on the role of Roger Moore's executive assistant in 2002, Gareth Owen became the right-hand man to an icon, as well as his co-author, onstage co-star and confidant. Gareth was faithfully at Roger's side for fifteen years until his passing in 2017. In this affectionate and amusing book, the author recounts his times with Roger Moore and gives a unique and rare insight into life with one of the world's most beloved actors. Roger always said, 'Gareth knows me better than I know myself.' For all his celebrity, Roger Moore was quite reserved. In interviews he rarely spoke about himself, much preferring to tell fun tales about others. But his trusted sidekick was with him throughout his worldwide travels, his UK stage shows, his writing process and his book tours, as he received his Knighthood, and as he rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous. There were genuinely hilarious, heartfelt and extraordinary moments to be captured and Gareth Owen was there to share them all.
Having graduated from Bangor University with a degree in Applied Physics and Electronics I put it to good use by ... running away to join the film industry! Setting up office at Pinewood Studios I ran my own production company and in 1999 branched out into writing film-industry related articles for trade magazines. This lead to me writing my first book 'The Pinewood Story' all about the history of the famous studios through the eyes of the people who created it. Further books followed - Albert J Luxford: The Gimmick Man; Alan Hume - A Life Through The Lens; Roger Moore - His Films And Career ... and that latter book lead to the opportunity of working with the great man himself, for 16 years in total, as his PA, right hand man and co-author. Having persuaded him to put pen to paper on his first volume of autobiography I served as his ghostwriter on 'My Word Is My Bond' plus a further three volumes: 'Bond On Bond', 'Last Man Standing' and 'A Bientot'. I continued to write other books ranging from 'The Shepperton Story' to ghostwriting 'From Pinewood to Hollywood' for film producer Paul Hitchcock; 'Memoirs Of A Film Publicist' for Jerry Pam; 'Stars And Wars' for art director Alan Tomkins .... and my 19th book launched in 2020 entitled 'Raising An Eyebrow - My Life with Sir Roger Moore'.
